The port, in the village of Alopronia, will welcome you to the island, with a beautiful small sandy beach. The village is the oldest settlement on the island, with many charming alleys and many churches. On the opposite slope of the mountain lies the Castle.

The island is one of the first areas that were considered as 'Habitat of European importance'. The poppies, the narcissus, the rosemary, the sage and its impressive rocky terrain, the terraces, but also the amazing view to the Aegean charm the traveller forever. In Sikinos there are everywhere special species of fig trees, so don't miss the opportunity to taste their fruit!

Small, mountainous and barren, in Sikinos the hiking finds the ideal space that requires. Here there are marked and mapped routes which you have to walk. Only in this way you will understand the seriousness and the value of this island. The largest cave of Sikinos is the one of Black Cave. The access can be only by boat and is one of the most beautiful beaches of the island.

Paved paths

In Sikinos there was an incredible paved path which was connecting the port with the Castle. But unfortunately towards the end of the 1990s, when it was decided to be built the asphalt road which connects the port with the Castle, was hacked onto the paved path with result to be destroyed. Today what has left is only a small part of it, and judging from this point, then the existence of such a pathway to the island would be catalytic.

Diocese of Sikinos

Opposite the ruins of the ancient city of Sikinos, in a very short distance from the steep coasts and at an altitude of 270 metres lies the monastery complex of the Diocese of Sikinos. It consists of the cathedral of the Diocese, which is dedicated to the Virgin, the Byzantine chapel of St. Anne and the dilapidated buildings of cells and other ancillary spaces.

Church of Virgin Pantanassa

The church of Virgin Pantanassa was founded in 1787, is the metropolis of the island and is located in the central square of the castle in Chora. Its iconostasis is carved and gilded.

Zoodochos Pigi Monastery

The monastery of Zoodochos Pigi prevails over the edge of the cliff and offers a panoramic views across the island. The exact date of its foundation is not known, however it existed before 1700 and functioned as a nunnery. In the piratical raids served as shelter to the residents.

Sikinos' "musts"

  • Sikinos is the right place to enjoy another kind of vacation, the "party vacation". Since the first day you'll get to know locals and other visitors and join your energy with their around a table full of "rakomelo" drink and appetizers, on a small beach or in an impromptu night party on an alley.
  • On "Manalis Winery" (2 kilometers away from Hora) you'll enjoy rare wine tastes and you'll be guided on the facility. Cyclades' view from there is spectacular.
  • "Melitenia" is the best place for sweets. The ice-cream is just unique, available in many flavors, that you won't find anywhere else.
  • "Steki of Garbis" is on the island's Castle. You must definitely taste the pork meat and the wine, produced by the tavern's owner.

Don't forget
Sikinos is one of the smallest islands in Aegean Sea and has very few facilities. It will be better to have cash with you, as well as your medicine (in case you receive some medical treatment).

The island has a few rooms for rent, so if this is your vacation place, you'll have to book one as soon as possible.

The island's water-stock is limited, so be careful and manage it wisely.

Happy Holidays in Sikinos!!!
